To modern youngsters: Read wrong books (e.g. The Secret etc), watch wrong films (e.g. Twilight etc) and wrong TV shows (e.g. How I Met Your Mother etc), hang out with wrong people (look around), and ask why your life is miserable. I say, that's why!

That love which depends on sexual act for its expression (e.g. romantic love) is but a sexual desire in disguise of love. Romantic love is a joke.
12/04/2011
Sex is neither love nor an expression of love. It's a quasi-voluntary indulgence of animal nature. Give it a status higher than that and prepare to be miserable.

If being virtuous means having less fun then the purpose of life must not be having fun.

Awareness of determinism is one thing. However, to base one's decision making (or a lack of it) on the notion that we don't have free will is, in my view, insane!

The only truly happy man is a wise man; otherwise a drunkard is also happier than the average.

Happiness is also when you cry a river watching The Pursuit of Happyness.

People who are bored by philosophy, but often complaining about something of life are big turnoffs to me. They are like kids, narcissists, who don’t want to understand why something is problematic but only want to have their way, or cry.

The existence of a system depends on what could be called miracles once it has crossed the complexity level after which the individual participants only know their own roles (bound to their own goals) but have no clue how ‘the whole system’ works

Knowledge is after all just knowledge. Without 'understanding' in life, man is lost.
10/31/2011
The head needs certainty to work; but the heart is erratic. What one must, then, work out is flexible certainty.

Sparked from Jevons paradox, I have a theory that the more efficient technology we make available, more of our energy will be sucked in by it. And I think I am not wrong. Many offices now work 24x7.
10/27/2011
If we invent technology that increases productivity manyfold, shouldn't it reduce the work hours? And we think technology is making our lives better. Duh!
10/22/2011
Having the knowledge that life is absurd is not something one can be proud of, however true that may be.
10/22/2011
- You know what, there's no God; we're totally on our own! That means we can do anything! Heck, we don't even have free will! It's just the laws of physics determining what we do. Isn't that, um.. something?
- Yes, quite a progress that is for the humanity. We're doing great!

Everyone is selfish. But noble is he whose selfish motives are aligned with good interests of something greater than himself.

When I will need what you can give, I will talk to you. When you will need what I can give, you will talk to me. It's always that way with everyone; whether we acknowledge it or not.

The only asset of any value a human being has is his intellect, his capacity of reason.

When there is instant gratification of wishes there is nothing to cherish and nothing to live for.

If looking at a drunkard dancing on a public street, you get depressed for not having good enough reasons to enjoy life like him, then there's a serious problem with your world-view.

A spiritualist can not solve any problem of the world, because contentedness with the way of the world is the hallmark of spiritual development. Solutions, if at all, are found by seeing problems as problems. But a spiritualist is too mature to be bothered by anything but what af...

Imagine you are a company. Your "self" is the product. Society is the market. You want to be successful. How will you be(-have)? Isn't it true that customer satisfaction is the key? This might give you some insight for making a good life.

Any stance can be proven right or wrong. The only unbeatable position is of having no stance; but it's hard-as-hell to live on that position.

Direct pursuit of happiness is a narcissistic one. More than being happy, it is important to have a virtuous life. And the happiness it will generate as a by-product will be the happiness like no other.

No sweet talks, no cute faces, no amount of great sex, not even passion of love… In the end, only the respect for your thoughts will provide you the highest meaning. More than anything else, look for people who respect you for your thoughts (for you are what you think).
09/30/2011
It is better to keep trying to make sense of the life (even if it is unfathomable) than to decidedly live under delusions.
09/30/2011
I would rather take the direction (of philosophical advancement) where I might find some comfort than go the way (of mindless living) where I know there is none.
09/29/2011
Earlier unattractive people had to rely solely on their intelligence to attract others' attention. Now there are beauty techniques (hair-straightening, plastic surgery etc). Consider the implication.
09/27/2011
Best way to avoid being stuck in the meaninglessness is to have a worthwhile ambition and be continuously productive with respect to it.

When you're flooded with too many choices in people, (just like in anything else) your relations with them become fickle. Bravo to social networks!

Wisdom is to accept the reality, the imperfect world as it is. To want no less than perfect is to secure but empty-handedness.

Thorough philosophical and spiritual development through formal education may be a solution. But it's not as convenient (and I doubt if it will even be as effective) as religion has been in moral guidance to the humanity.
